Myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism are refractive errors that induce blur vision at different distances. It is known that myopic patients see better in near than distance vision, hyperopia induces better distance than near vision, whilst conversely astigmatism induces blurring at all distances. In addition to contact or ophthalmic lenses, different alternatives to improve the vision as corneal refractive surgery or phakic Intraocular Lenses (IOLs) have been developed. Precisely, phakic IOLs are a surgical alternative to improve vision in non-presbyopic patients with myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism. Such intraocular lenses are implanted inside the eyeball through a small incision, considering the intervention as an ambulatory surgery. Depending on its position inside of the eyeball, different anterior and posterior chamber phakic intraocular lenses have been developed. Concretely, anterior chamber phakic IOLs are classified as iris-claw and angular support.
Phakic IOLs are an alternative in patients who corneal refractive surgery (LASIK, SMILE…) is not adequate due to corneal irregularities, insufficient corneal thickness or high graduation among others… Likewise, in the scientific literature published in Pubmed Central has been reported that between the main applications of the phakic IOLs, stand out as combined treatment with crosslinking, in patients with pellucid marginal degeneration, keratoconus, albinism, keratoplasty, amblyopia, or even for correction residual errors among others… However, in addition to the many clinical applications of phakic IOLs, the innovations developed in its technology to improve visual quality and reduce posterior complications have contributed to its evolution. Precisely, from our international project ConsultoriaVisual.com, we plan content marketing and social media strategies in online platforms of ophthalmologic clinics and hospitals in order that the population receives more information about the clinical applications, necessary diagnostic devices, surgical procedure and the visual quality of the anterior and posterior chamber phakic IOLs. Likewise, from our international project, we also edit contents for online training platforms and universities to spread the different academic programs.
